James and John left everything to follow Jesus. I need to leave everything and follow Jesus and put Him first in my life. Following Jesus is the most important thing I can do.
And so, dear friends, while you are waiting for these things to happen, make every effort to be found living peaceful lives that are pure and blameless in his sight.

I will try to live a peaceful life and be pure and blameless in God's sight. I need to be blameless in God's sight while waiting for Jesus' return. I must keep God first in my life while waiting for Jesus to come back.
So you see, the Lord knows how to rescue godly people from their trials, even while keeping the wicked under punishment until the day of final judgment.

God will help me through trials in my life, he will punish the wicked but he will carry me through the trials in my life if I rely on Him and stay close to him.
Because of that experience, we have even greater confidence in the message proclaimed by the prophets. You must pay close attention to what they wrote, for their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place—until the Day dawns, and Christ the Morning Star shines in your hearts.

God used the prophets to communicate his message. I need to pay close attention to what they wrote down because it is a light in a dark place. They wrote down God's messages for me, and I need to pay attention to what they wrote because God is using their words to speak to me through His Word.
By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.

I need to rely on God's divine power to live a Godly life. I didn't live the most Godly life this week but God will help me live to be a better example of a Godly life. I have to rely on God to help me live a Godly life and He has given me everything I need to live a Godly life.
I need to know God better by reading His word and praying to him to help me live a Godly life.
Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.

God cares about me so I should give my worries to him. Whether it's worrying about my eye or my health or other things in my life, God wants me to give Him my worries.
Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.
