God wants me to forgive others because He forgave me. I need to make allowances for others' faults.
For they don’t understand God’s way of making people right with himself. Refusing to accept God’s way, they cling to their own way of getting right with God by trying to keep the law. For Christ has already accomplished the purpose for which the law was given. As a result, all who believe in him are made right with God.

People think that they can make themselves right with God by keeping the law, or for secular people, being good. They don't want to accept God's way of being made right with Him through Jesus. They feel they don't need Jesus to save them from their sins because they feel they are good enough, even though Jesus fulfilled the law and made us right with God because we can't do it ourselves.
We need Jesus because He is the only way we can become right with God, but people cling to their own way of trying to become right with God. Don't rely on yourself to become right with God, accept Jesus into your life and you'll become right with God.
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
